Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill presents a live concert reading of South, a musical by Carmen Borgia.
South is a musical with original story, book and music by Catskill, NY songwriter Carmen Borgia. It is set in 1860 “…to the north of South America but south of North America”. A young, orphan sailor pines for his mother, a cook and his daughter on the run search for a place to land, the ship smells bad and there’s no money in the sailing anymore. Such is life until they meet the worldly Mister Pym, a trader of religious artifacts.
It’s a journey where we meet thieves, whores, pirates, nuns, priests, traders, terrible cooks and an island of well-adjusted lady cannibals. A detour to a caffeine dependent monk brings us full circle with a spirited mix of beautiful melodies and Latin flavors that all point South.
